Roy Martin Kruse, 88, of Lebanon died Thursday at the Samaritan Evergreen Hospice House in Albany.

Roy was born May 30, 1928, in Hopkins, Minnesota, the son of Martin and Ella (Sievers) Kruse. He grew up working on the family farm. Roy graduated in 1947 from Marietta High School in Minnesota.

In 1955, when Roy was 26, he moved to Reedsport, Oregon, where he met Birdie Ann Ragan. Roy and Birdie were wed on July 5, 1955 in Vancouver, Washington. They moved with their three young sons to Lebanon in 1966. Roy and Birdie were married for 56 years until her death in 2011.

Roy is survived by sons Terry, Leroy and Lloyd, all of Lebanon; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and brothers Ted, Cletus and Gordon, all of Minnesota.

Roy was preceded in death by his wife, Birdie; parents Martin and Ella; and brother Leonard.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 1, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 150 S. Eighth St., Lebanon.
