NEW CASTLE, PA. - Gerard Thomas “Jerry” Petro, 67, passed away on April 26, 2017, at UPMC Shadyside Hospital.

Born on Feb. 1, 1950, in New Castle, he was the son of the late John and Katherine M. Chirozzi Petro.

Jerry was a 1968 graduate of New Castle High School. He was a member of the New Castle Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Jerry enjoyed drag racing and won over 20 races. He was an avid Pirates and Steelers fan, and he enjoyed being outside and mowing the lawn. Jerry loved going on trips to Gettysburg as well as other Petro tours. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family, his cat and loyal companion, Nay Nay, and he always enjoyed having a big slice of cherry pie.

Jerry is survived by his sons, Robert G. Petro and wife Sylvia of New Castle and Justin T. Petro and wife Deborah of Hickory Township, Pa.; brother John C. Petro and wife Ellie of New Wilmington, Pa.; former wife and best friend, Kay Bannen of Hickory Township; grandchildren Taylor Christine and Brandon Stephen; niece Amber Carrier and her husband, David, and their children, Addy and Evan; niece Le Ann Petro; and uncle Charles Chirozzi; as well as many close friends.

Visitation will be held Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 3000 Wilmington Road in New Castle.

Services will be conducted Sunday at 5 p.m. at the funeral home, officiated by Mr. Gilbert Parshall.

Memorial contributions may be made in Jerry’s honor to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the ASPCA.
