Katherine "Kat" Eva Barnes Green was born on Dec. 21, 1942, in Brooklyn, New York, a daughter of the late William H. and Rosa Canty Barnes. Katherine died on June 2, 2017, at her home.

She received her formal education in the public schools of Brooklyn and later received an associate degree in accounting at New York University, New York, New York. Katherine retired from the Department of Veteran Affairs as an accountant. She was also studying the Bible with Jehovah's Witnesses before her massive stroke. Katherine was a family-oriented person. She helped raise her nieces and nephews.

She is survived by one sister, Ruby (Eugene) Blanding; adopted son / nephew, Shawn C. Gregoire; nephews, Robert L. Powell, Eugene (Chris) Blanding and Randall T. Blanding; nieces, Dawn F. Douglas, Charlene R. Humphrey and Nicole T. Humphrey; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and caring friends, all of whom will miss her very much and always love her.

There will not be a public viewing.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 100 Lynam Road, Sumter, SC 29154.

The family will receive friends at the home, 4 Orvis Court, Sumter, SC 29154.

Job's Mortuary Inc., 312 S. Main St., Sumter, is in charge of arrangements.
