Peter (Pete) Edward Swenson, a long-time resident of Norfolk and Franklin, died after a sudden illness on Monday June 19, 2017.

Born on May 21, 1938, to the late Evald N. Swenson and Mary E. (Pendleton) Swenson, he was raised and educated in Norfolk. Peter was a beloved long-time employee of the John Nagle Fish Company in South Boston. His refrigeration skills helped the John Nagle Fish Co. for many years. He had excellent mechanical skills that were a valued commodity by everyone he knew. If Pete couldn’t fix it, you would definitely throw it away. He was a union carpenter and a skilled craftsman. He also served in the U.S. Navy.

Pete enjoyed many crafts such as wood carving and jewelry making.

He enjoyed giving and has helped so many people we would need the whole newspaper to list them all. In his later years, he was the happiest helping his friends at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses and helping with many building and refurbishing of Kingdom’s Hall.

He is survived by his wife Virginia F. Swenson of Norfolk and his children: Carilyn Renaud, Valerie Swenson, Elaine Swenson, Jace Swenson, Lila Swenson, and Elke Swenson. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren: Dale, Sheila, Raymond, Brit, Kaili, Joel, Jordyn, Hulio, Jacob, Jonas, Bjorn, Annika and five great-grandchildren: Piper, Logan, Thorsten, Ebony and Xaviar. Peter was predeceased by his brothers Harold and Evald (Nat) Swenson and also leaves three surviving sisters, Sally Frink of Norfolk, Shirley Swenson of Connecticut and Linda Takacs of Pennsylvania.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 1, 2017, at 2 p.m., at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 250 Maple St., Franklin, MA 02038.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made on Peter’s behalf to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 250 Maple St., Franklin, MA 02038 or to Jehovah’s Witnesses, 900 Red Mills Road, Wallkill, NY 12589-3223.
