El Tribunal Supremo de Rusia revisará la legitimidad de la declaración del Centro de Dirección de los Testigos de Jehová como "extremista" y de la "prohibición de su labor en el territorio" del país, según informaron a Sputnik en la oficina de prensa del Tribunal.

"La Sala de Apelaciones del Tribunal Supremo ruso revisará la apelación en contra de la decisión sobre la liquidación de la organización religiosa Centro de Dirección de los Testigos de Jehová en Rusia", apuntó una representante del Tribunal Supremo.

El Centro de Dirección de los Testigos de Jehová era la principal organización jurídica del grupo religioso en el país eslavo. El 20 de abril de 2017, el Tribunal Supremo de Rusia lo declarócomo extremista y prohibió todas sus actividades.

El juicio contra la organización fue iniciado por el Ministerio de Justicia. Uno de los principales motivos de la sentencia fue la prohibición de los Testigos de Jehová de que sus miembros reciban transfusiones de sangre. Asimismo, las actividades de los Testigos de Jehová, según agregó la representante del Tribunal, genera amenazas a los derechos e intereses de la sociedad y la seguridad pública.

Durante el juicio, varios exadeptos de esta corriente cristiana confesaron que los Testigos de Jehová controlan de manera estricta a los miembros de su comunidad y restringen duramente la libertad de sus movimientos. Además, la posición de las mujeres dentro de las comunidades de los Testigos contradice el principio de la igualdad de género.

Los abogados de los Testigos de Jehová rechazan todas las reclamaciones del Ministerio de Justicia. En particular, indican que el rechazo a las transfusiones de sangre no puede considerarse extremista, debido a que este aspecto no está presente en la ley contra el extremismo.

Según los abogados, la literatura de los Testigos de Jehová tampoco puede considerarse extremista, dado que las reclamaciones del Ministerio de Justicia se referían a citas de la Biblia.
