CARTERVILLE — Val Gene McCamish, 83, passed away Saturday July 15, 2017, in Columbia, Tennessee.

He leaves his wife of 62 years, Millie (Tripp) McCamish; daughters, Valerie Casady and Tamorah Dotson; sons, Timothy McCamish and Anthony McCamish; brother, Andy Aird; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and loved ones and friends.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty (McCamish) Harkins.

Born and raised in Carterville, Val was the son of Wayne McCamish and Wilma Aird.

Mr. McCamish earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Southern Illinois University in teaching and taught English upon his retirement from Wirth Junior High in Cahokia.

Mr. McCamish served as an elder of the Christian Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses for over 50 years and resided in Texas, Florida, and Tennessee after his retirement. He will be missed and remembered as a loving father who had a passion for learning, teaching, music, and travel.

A private ceremony will be conducted July 29.
