Charles Bud Hakala, 82 died July 31, 2017 at his home in Buena Vista.

He was born Feb. 19, 1935, in Colcord, Okla. to Veikko Hakala and Violet Sisson (Southerland).

Although he was an electrician for more than 40 years, his real love was the ocean and skin diving for abalone off the coast of California.

Mr. Hakala also spent many hours reading his bible and other literature.

He moved around a lot as a child and taught himself how to swim. He also taught all five of his children and then his grandchildren to swim.

Throughout his life he made many good friends.

Friends and family said he was very grateful and appreciative of all that was ever done in his behalf.

Mr. Hakala was preceded in death by parents; wife Carol A. Hakala (LaRock); and brothers LeRoy Dew and Richard Hakala.

Survivors include his brother Phillip Hakala of Georgia; children Buddy Hakala of Stagecoach, Nev., Caroldean (David) Wilson of Buena Vista, Michael Hakala of Stagecoach, Nev., Peggy Sue (Robert) Losh of Longville, Minn. and Sallie Anne Wilson of Stagecoach, Nev.; 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and his loyal canine companion Mr. Tip.

Memorial services are set for 3 p.m. August 11, 2017, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Buena Vista.

Arrangements are with Lewis and Glenn Funeral Home.
