STERLING – Richard Frank "Rick" King, 67, formerly of Sterling, passed away Friday, Aug. 11, 2017, surrounded by his family and friends.

Rick was born April 28, 1950, to parents Robert and Marjorie (Smith) King. He was blessed with six sisters, Barbara Fagen of Florida, Rebecca Tomczak (deceased), Brooke (Earl) Cochran, Dawn (David) Bowman, Shawn (Steve) Nelson, and Sarah Walls, all of Illinois.

Survivors include his wife, Allona of Iowa, sons, Adam and Erik, and daughter, Rhiannon, all of Iowa. He had six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Rick loved his family and friends and always would make time to help whenever he could. Known by his friends as “Jed,” he played the banjo and guitar, teaching it to his nephew, and entertaining all on family vacations.

He was a tireless worker and devoted to his faith and his Kingdom Hall brothers and sisters.

He will be sadly missed by all.

A memorial service will be Saturday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses in Des Moines, Iowa.

A family gathering will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Oak Knoll Cemetery in Sterling, at his father’s grave, with a lunch afterward at Grace Episcopal Church in Sterling.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial can be sent in Rick’s name to The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 420 Waltrous Ave., Des Moines, IA 50315.
