Wayne M. Baker, 64, died Aug. 7, 2017, in Denver.

He was born Aug. 26, 1952, in Fort Riley, Kan., to Lula May and Melvin Baker.

He grew up in Buena Vista, where he worked at the Dairy Bar and later at Climax Mine.

Mr. Baker started his own janitorial business in Salida. He moved to Fowler and then to Englewood, where he worked for Bell Heating and Plumbing.

Friends and family said his real love was the ministry, and he devoted many years to telling others that Jehovah’s Kingdom is the only solution to mankindÂ’s problems.

Mr. Baker was involved in building a Kingdom Hall in Fowler.

Friends and family said they always appreciated his calm demeanor and sense of humor. When they would tell him something, he frequently responded with “Oh really!”

Mr. Baker enjoyed gardening and watching football.

He met his wife, Joann (Martellaro) in Salida, and they were married for 43 years.

Mr. Baker was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Stephen, Martha and Daniel.

Survivors include his wife; stepsons, David of Englewood and Brett Lancaster of Salida; step-grandsons; sisters Carolyn of Woodland Park, Linda of Edgertown, Wyo., and Judith of Salida; brothers David of Salida, James of the Philippines and Timothy of St. George, Kan.; and many nieces and nephews.

His memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Aug. 26, 2017, at the Kingdom Hall of JehovahÂ’s Witnesses, 10050 U.S. 50, Poncha Springs.
