Costco, the U.S.’ largest warehouse club, is now exploring home delivery.The retailer’s model has always focused on brick-and-mortar locations—magical places where Sony 4K TV’s and 300-pack Goldfish boxes sit shelf-by-shelf in perfect harmony. 

But this past week’s move to delivery was abrupt. Costco began offering two-day delivery online, and sealed a deal with Instacart—the one-day delivery startup. 

And as most retail stories go these days, Amazon was to blame. Since the e-commerce king swooped up Whole Foods and began discounting, certain offerings have even fallen below Costco’s wholesale prices…

…prices that helped Costco weather the retail storm far better than your average big-box. Now, the Whole Foods hysteria has sent Costco’s shares spiraling down 7%. 

And here’s how it plans to fight back:

• CostcoGrocery: two-day shipping for nearly 500 non-perishables, and free delivery on orders above $75.
• Instacart: one-day delivery, 376 Costco locations, and nearly 1,700 offerings.
