Reuben Thomas Brackett of Etowah went to sleep in death on Sunday, Nov. 26, 2017.

He was born on June 30, 1936, in Old Fort. He was the first son of Migie and Frances Harrold Brackett.

He served in the U.S. Navy and was retired from CSX Railroad. He was a devout Jehovah's Witness and spent almost 15 years in the full-time ministry talking to people about the Bible and its message of God's Kingdom. His hope is to live forever in the restored Paradise on Earth.

Reuben was preceded in death by his parents and two of his siblings, Brenda Dacus and Freeman Brackett; and a stepson, Billy Edmonson.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Marjorie Peck Brackett; three children, Ralph (Kim) Brackett, Kelly (John) McClary and stepdaughter Lisa (Mike) McKinney; grandsons, Alexander and Dylan Brackett and Zachary and Zeb McKinney; a granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Edmonson; and three great-grandchildren; his brothers, Jimmy (Kathy) Brackett of Etowah, and Dewayne Brackett of Dalton, Ga.; one sister, Sue Brackett of Dalton, Ga.; one brother-in-law, Richard (Margaret) Peck; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Glass, Josephine Brown and Nancy Snider, all of Etowah; and several nieces, nephews and many close friends.

He was a special man, dearly loved and respected, and will be missed greatly. In spite of the fact that he suffered the ravages of dementia, he never lost his sense of humor, his wonderful smile or his love for others.

A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30, in the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home with Ted Lewis, an elder in the Benton congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, officiating.

The family will receive friends and family to offer comfort and support from 5 to 6:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
