DIXON – Walter B. Miller Jr., 74, of Dixon, was born June 15, 1943, in Brownsville, Tennessee, to Walter B. Sr. and Corine (Shaw) Miller. He worked at Northwestern Steel & Wire in Sterling for more than 30 years before his retirement. 

Walter married the love of his life, Cora Mae Huffman on Sept. 13, 1963, in Cambridge. They spent 54 wonderful years together. To this union, three children were born, whom he dearly loved, Wilma, Wallace, and Wanda. Walter and CoraÂ’s hobby together was fishing. Any free time they had, they would grab their fishing poles and head for a canal.

On March 30, 1973, Walter made the most important decision of his life when he symbolized his personal dedication to Jehovah by water baptism. He had a love for Jehovah and his ministry, which was evident to all who knew him, including his neighbors in the community. 

On Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017, Walter fell asleep in death at his home.

He leaves memories to cherish for his wife, Cora; children, Wilma Miller-Schaefer of Rock Falls, Wallace Miller of Kewanee, and Wanda (Chris) Gwin of Dixon; four grandchildren, Nicole Schaefer, and Sterling, Sydney and “PopPop’s man,” Stephen Gwin; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear, longtime friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Samuel Miller. 

Cremations rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Dixon. Burial of cremains will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon.
