Virgil Allen Acree, of Deltona, Fla., died Monday, Jan. 8, 2018.

Virgil was born Oct. 6, 1931, in Ray County. He graduated from Richmond High School, where he starred in many sports. He married Dorothy Lou Schofield, of Stet, on Sept. 6, 1952.

He is survived by his wife; his children, Robert Acree, Cindy Acree-Cox and Rebecca Gilmartin; his sister, Wanda Acree Kocourek; and five grandchildren.

Virgil lived most of his life in Ray County. He was a loving and devoted husband and father. He will be remembered for his steadfast faith, love of cool crisp weather, sense of humor and his skill as a craftsman. He constructed at least 20 homes and was always eager to assist his family and friends with projects. Later in life, he and Dorothy traveled for six years and assisted in the branch construction work for Jehovah’s Witnesses in foreign countries. In 1994 they moved to Deltona, Fla.

Virgil was known for his kindness and generosity and will be forever missed. Memorial services will take place at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 20, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, DeBary, Fla.
