Janet Eileen Berg, 82, of Mansfield, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Monday, Feb. 5, 2018.

She was born on Oct. 22, 1935 in Union City, New Jersey to Charles and Lottie (Schlemm) Schmitz.

Janet married Robert Russell Berg on March 2, 1958, her best friend and the love of her life, whom she knew from kindergarten. It broke her heart when he passed away unexpectedly on Aug. 2, 1984.

Janet was a homemaker and a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. She believed in making memories with those she loved through vacations and parties. She especially loved those vacations to the beach. She always had a soft spot for animals and enjoyed bird watching, doing crosswords, and playing games. She was impossible to beat at Scrabble. 

Janet is survived by her three daughters, Nancy (Roger) Best of Findlay, Stacy Stefan of Parma and Amy (Nick) Childs of Mansfield; daughter-in-law, Charmin (Brent) Owens of Mansfield; 12 grandchildren, Britney, Amber, Zachary, Spencer, Alexia, Sophia, Amanda, Kristina, Olivia, Jordan, Andrew and Bella; as well as five great grandchildren, extended family and many friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by two sons, Robert Steven Berg and Michael David Berg and a brother, Charles Schmitz. 

Family will receive friends on Friday, Feb. 9, 2018 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 South Diamond Street, Mansfield with a Memorial service immediately following at 3 p.m.
