They met in Vienna, Austria, where Sue was born and raised, while Bob was stationed there with the U.S. Army. They were married April 14, 1956, in Hanau, Germany.

He worked 30 years as a sports reporter for the Lewiston Tribune, retiring in 2002. He has umpired Lewiston Parks & Recreation slow-pitch softball games for many years.

He also umpired five professional baseball games and spent a number of years umpiring college and high school games.

He is a member of the Valley Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.

They have two sons, Robert and Chuck, and two daughters, Suzanne and Rommy. They also have seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
