Lloyd Wesley Hartshorne died Friday, April 22, 2016, at 87 years of age. In the last few years, he liked to quote Psalm 90:10: “The span of our life is 70 years, or 80 if one is especially strong.” He said he was getting bonus years!

Lloyd was born Jan. 19, 1929, in Ponca City, Oklahoma, to Frank and Mary Jane Hartshorne. They moved to Peru, Indiana, in 1945 while Lloyd was a teenager. He later lived several places around Indiana, the longest being in Brown County, spending the last 11 years in San Antonio, Texas.

Lloyd married Virginia Culp Oct. 15, 1950, and they were married 65 years. She survives, along with five children, Cherry Bird, Anita (Bill) Clark, Wesley (Susie) Hartshorne, Jeffrey Hartshorne and Darla (Pete) Beltran; two grandsons; four stepgrandsons; two great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and a brother, Frank (Sylvia) Hartshorne.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Byron Hartshorne; and sister, Jessie Fawbush.

Lloyd was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1950 and served faithfully as an elder until his death. He took early retirement from Indiana Bell in December 1983, then got his electrician’s license which led to his great love of volunteering to build Kingdom Halls with the regional building committee of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He had the privilege of traveling over Indiana and assisting many congregations building new Kingdom Halls, also traveling twice to Puerto Rico and once to Jamaica to help rebuild Kingdom Halls and homes after hurricanes, until suffering three strokes in 2003.
