Rosie Smith Long, 92, of the Hickman’s Crossroads Community, died Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at her home. Mrs. Long was born in Ash on March 21, 1924, the daughter of the late Ellis Gaston Smith and Emma Jane Stanley Smith. She was the last survivor of 14 children.

She was a talented quilter. Mrs. Long was a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses Kingdom Hall of Shallotte.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vonnie C. Long; daughter, Janice I. Long; two sons, Douglas Long and Kenneth W. Long.

She is survived by five children, Clint Long, and his wife, Wanda, of Leland, Joyce Long, and her husband, Larry, of Little River, S.C., Erma Bordeaux of Leland, Marsha Caison, and her husband, Raldon, of Calabash and Sandra Schroeder, and her husband, Ed, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and 22 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.

Friends are cordially invited to visit with the family from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 22, at White Funeral and Cremation Service, 3660 Express Drive, Shallotte, with a time of personal remembrances at 5 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday May 23, at the funeral home chapel with Brother Paul Milligan officiating. Interment will follow in the Clark Cemetery, Nakina.

In lieu of customary remembrances, memorials may be directed to SECU, Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 955 Mercy Lane, Bolivia, NC 28422 or Jehovah’s Witnesses.
